I recently brought my girlfriend to our favourite restaurant, Shiki for her birthday dinner. It is a Japanese Tepanyaki restaurant located at Intercontinental Hotel along North Terrace. Though it is really pricy coming up to about 200 per head it is well worth it. The food is exquisite. Wagyu steak, lobster, bugs, Clarevale Chicken and prawns name it done to perfection, Tepanyaki style. The culinary skills of the chef are exceptional and very entertaining indeed to watch. About ten people are able to sit together and manned by their own personal chef. Regular tables for personal dining are also present but to enjoy thoroughly watching the chef make your meal is a must!
The atlantic salmon belly with ponzu sauce, Wagyu steak and garlic prawns are a delight. The sushi and sashimi are very fresh and refreshing. The salmon sashimi in particular is world-class. The sashimi slices are each somehow encased with a skin and the slices are cut so intricately. When placed in the mouth it melts and just seems so heavenly. If you have the big bucks to spend, Coffin Bay Oysters with soy butter sauce, Kangaroo island lobster and steamed Moreton Bay with truffle butter and barramundi in mushroom broth should be tried!! Last but not the least the DESSERTS should be well indulged! They have the best green tea ice cream and best panna cotta among many other Japanese places that I have tried over Australia. They do change the flavour of the panna cotta from time to time but whatever the flavours I guarantee they would be amazing. Though Shiki is extremely pricy, for a special occasion or two, it would be well spent there. The ambience , the food, the service and the value exquisite.
